VCCA residency, March 12-19, 2012

Just completed a week residency at Virginia Center for the Creative Arts.

Wonderful having an empty studio.  I arrived with matt acrylics, 5-24" x 18" cradle-supports faced with arches and several box supports as well, everything ready and primed and the studio raw with no history.

I began each day with a walk. On the walk I "noticed color". In the studio I used the noticed or located color to set a palette for the day from swatches of color aid paper I had brought with me. I used only those chosen colors for that day. The palette range usually fell into 8 to 9 colors.

On the walks, occasionally, I picked up an interesting item to remember the place. These I placed in the box supports and worked on them with an unrestricted palette.
